St Yrieix la Perche is on the crossroads of the Haute Vienne, Corrèze and the Dordogne. It is a gateway town to the Périgord –Limousin Natural Park and is situated on the Richard the Lion Heart trail. The town is steeped in history stretching as far back as Roman times and has a lovely old quarter, with small alleyways and lovely architecture dating back to medieval times.
St Yrieix La Perche is the largest town in the southern Haute Vienne and is a bustling market town, with a traditional street market every other Friday and during the summer months a Sunday farmers’ market. There are plenty of shops; including porcelain shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, tourist office, banks, doctors, dentists, a hospital, schools and an agricultural college.
The town has a busy calendar with sporting events, festivals, fairs and music events. There is also a large leisure lake with a beach, swimming area and fishing, a rugby club and plenty of sporting activities. There is a library, internet café, cinema and theatre. St Yrieix is at the centre of the region and it is easy to explore the surrounding towns, villages and countryside including the beautiful village of Ségur le Chateau and discover the delights of the Périgord –Limousin Natural Park.
